The food was wonderful and the setting was a true Maine experience. You sit on the wharf and watch the boats come in and out. We had steamers and chicken pesto sandwich and loved both. It was a little maze to find behind the general store, but worth it.
We were looking for a quick bite after getting into town late on a Monday. Not much is open on Mondays in early June in Port Clyde, but Dip Net was. We ordered two take-out bowls of haddock chowder. It had corn, bacon, and potatoes--and was incredible! If it is on the menu, its a must order.
What an amazing place to stop for a meal while out boating in mid-coast Maine. While visiting friends in August, we were treated to a sunset cruise and a stop at the Dip Net. Started with the crab dip to share - tasty and filling. (I brought GF crackers with me to enjoy. The tortilla chips that come with are likely GF, but cross-contamination may be an issue, so better to be safe.) They do offer GF bread, so I enjoyed a Maine Haddock sandwich. Really cannot go wrong with Maine Haddock in the summer. Or anytime, I suppose. Similar to other restaurants in the summer of 2022, staffing was an issue, so wait times were longish, but really, when you're on vacation and the views are so spectacular, what's wrong with that?
Food quality was really good, but they seemed understaffed and wait times were long for everything. The servers were doing the best they could but they were too outnumbered by guests. Crab dip was great and so was the lobster roll.
I was really excited to include the Dip Net in my summer travel plans and was not disappointed! Nestled on a wharf between the Monhegan boat and the public dock and behind the General Store, the Dip Net serves up fresh Maine seafood, cold drinks, and killer views. Check out their Instagram for photos. Although seated at picnic tables under a permanent canopy, expect a culinary experience above your average Maine lobster dock - my haddock tacos were AWESOME. Others at my table really enjoyed their burger and a salad with grilled chicken. If possible, time your visit just after the Monhegan boat departs to avoid the throngs of hungry travellers because, like every restaurant is short-staffed. If you're considering a jaunt down the St Georges' peninsula, stop at the Dip Net for lunch. #portcyldeamerica
The Dip Net has the quintessential Maine setting atmosphere. It's good for couples and families. Fun for kids to be outside on the docks. We've eaten there many times over the years. It's usually a five star. This visit however, they were out of several dishes by 6 pm. Most of us ended up with our third or fourth choice. Service was friendly but it took a long while. I'm sure it was an unusual occasion and we will try again.
This is one of the only three restaurants in this quiet town. We were here for the Blueberry Cove Half-Marathon and saw this restaurant was packed on a Saturday night. There was nowhere else to eat so we got a table and enjoyed the view since this restaurant is located next to the dock. The food was expensive compared to Philadelphia and wasn't as good, but the atmosphere was so relaxed and quiet that it made up for the food. The lobster in the roll was dry and required more butter. The lobster in the steam pot was soft and had no seasoning options besides just butter. We wished there was a garlic butter or cajun seasoning on the side to change up the taste a bit.
Ended up finding this place thanks to a local! Cute restaurant right on the harbor in Port Clyde. They had both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking was a little tight around dinner time, but if you're patient, you'll eventually find a spot. And it's free. We arrived around 5:45pm and thankful we did. A tour boat came back to the dock 5 minutes after we sat and there were no outdoor tables left. We sat outside at one of the picnic tables. Our waitress was great and attentive. We ordered Seadog Blueberry beers which are the best since they put fresh blueberries in with the beer! We ordered the crab dip ($12) for an app. Cheesy and delicious! I ordered a lobster roll (Linda's way: light mayo and herbs). They had a couple of options for the lobster roll ($18). It was good but I should have done traditional as I wasn't a huge fan of the herbs. Fries were soggy but the coleslaw was great! My boyfriend got the lobster pie which we were surprised came in the soup dish. We expected it to be a piece of pie however it was more like lobster soup with a crumb crust on top. It was served with rice and broccoli. In our opinion, small portion for $28, but it was tasty! Overall, it was a nice atmosphere for dinner. Quick and friendly service. Good was decent and okay pricing. Not many other restaurants around so get here early if you want a seat.
